5 website automations worth building with n8n or Make
Running a website comes with a lot of small, repetitive jobs. Checking that links still work, updating prices, sharing new posts, sorting through messages. None of them is hard, but together they eat hours every week.
Automation tools like n8n and Make can take most of that off your plate. You connect the services you already use, and a workflow runs on a schedule or when something happens. Here are five automations that pay off for almost any content or affiliate site.
n8n or Make?
Both do the same basic job: they connect apps and run steps one after another.
Make is the easier start. It runs in the cloud, has a polished visual editor and you pay based on how much your workflows run.
n8n can be installed on your own server, which makes heavy use much cheaper, and it handles complex logic and AI steps well. It takes a bit more technical comfort to set up.
If you are not sure, start with Make for the first workflow. Move to n8n when you have several workflows running every day.
1. Broken affiliate link alerts
Products go out of stock, programs close, links break. Every broken link on a popular page is money lost every day you do not notice.
The workflow: once a week, fetch a list of your affiliate links from your site, visit each one and check the response. If a link returns an error or lands on a “not available” page, send yourself a message with the post and the link. Thirty minutes to build, and it can pay for itself the first time it catches something.
2. Price and product data refresh
Comparison tables with old prices hurt trust and conversions.
The workflow: on a schedule, pull current prices and availability from the shop or network that offers a product feed or API, and update the matching fields on your site. Most affiliate networks offer product feeds, and Amazon has an API for approved partners. Keep a person in the loop for big changes, like a product disappearing entirely.
3. New post, everywhere
Publishing a post should not mean another half hour of copying and pasting.
The workflow: when a post is published, create a draft email for your newsletter tool, a pin for Pinterest and a short post for your social accounts, using the title, excerpt and image. Have it all land as drafts you approve, not as automatic posts. You still decide, but the typing is done.
4. Contact form triage
Messages from your contact form are a mix of real questions, partnership offers and spam.
The workflow: when a message comes in, an AI step reads it and labels it: reader question, business enquiry or spam. Real questions go to your inbox with a suggested reply, business enquiries go to a separate list, spam is archived. You answer faster and never miss an important email under a pile of junk.
5. Research briefs with human review
This is the one people get wrong. Letting AI write and publish articles on its own produces exactly the kind of thin content Google is pushing down.
The workflow done right: you add a topic to a sheet. The automation gathers the top search results, related questions and your own notes, and an AI step turns them into a structured brief: the questions to answer, the facts to verify, the sources to read. The writing, testing and opinion stay yours. You save the research time without giving away what makes your site worth visiting.
Start with one
Pick the automation that saves you the most annoyance, build it, and let it run for a month before adding the next. A few small, reliable workflows beat one giant system you are afraid to touch.
